In March 2012, the Honourable Prime Minister, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama, announced the process for the formulation of Fiji’s new constitution.
In this regard Public Relations and Media Division developed materials for its Civic Education programme that was conducted from Apil to September 2012. The programme was focused primarily on the following;
- What is a Constitution?, What is in a Constitution? and How one can participate in the Constitution process?
- What is the Constitution Commission and its role?
- The Non-negotiables and
- The Constitution process
While the original process is schduled to be completed by March 2013, it is important to note, as recently announced by the Prime Minister the new constitution will be assented to by His Excellency the President, in April 2013.
The civic education material was translated into the vernaculars; itaukei and Hindustani, and distributed throughout the country during the civic education programme conducted by the PR Officers.
Exhibitions are key activities to the office; creating a platform to disseminate information, create awareness and assist members of the public with their concerns and issues.
The Implementation Coordinating Office has conducted exhibitions, through the Office of the Prime Minister; at the Government Referral Centre and with the Ministry of Agriculture during the Agriculture show. The exhibitions include; displays, screening of government events, dissemination or distribution of information (pampletes/posters etc.) and attending to queries.
The Exhibitions provides another avenue to take information to all Fijians.
The Ministry of Agriculture facilitates an annual Agriculture show of which the Office the Prime Minister (OPM)participates.
The Implementation Coordinating Office (ICO) colloborates with other units of OPM on the exhibition for the week-long Agriculture Show. OPM has been actively participated in the Agriculture show over the last 2 years in Suva and in Lautoka.
The Media Unit of the Public Relations and Media Division has and continues to coordinate events with various stakeholder agencies in government to facilitate awareness programs across the country.
Programs facilitated through these initiatives include; the Poverty Eradication Awareness Program and the Careers EXPO.
The Poverty Eradication Awareness program is coordinated through the Poverty Eradication Unit of the Office of the Prime Minister. This is an anuual program facilitated by the office to create awareness on poverty eradication by empowering people to overcome any/all forms of poverty.
The Careers EXPO is facilitated by the Ministry of Education in which the Media Unit also participates. This inter-agency collaboration ensures thatchildren and adults are informed about government initiatives, programs and the career opportunities within government.

Government Information & Referral Centre
The Implementation Coordinating Office (ICO) participates in the annual exhibition facilitated by the Government Information & Referral Centre (GIRC).
GIRC formulates a schedule for each ministry to conduct an exhibition each year.
In an effort to promote governments intentions, the Office of the Prime Minister, including ICO, participates in these exhibitions. The exhibition allows the PR and Media Officers to relay the intent of government as outlined in the People Charter for Change, Peace and Progress, government’s acchievements and developmental plans for all Fijians.
